GPS: Nuvi 200
Hello everybody. Just got a Nuvi 200 a couple of weeks back and still enjoying the new toy. I think this is a great community and the effort being put into the mapping is wonderful. Despite the lack of tracking capabilities, I hope to contribute in some way and would welcome any advice regarding how to do so.

Am finding some delay in getting a satellite fix in the car, which has Vkool. I assume this is a known problem with Vkool and other similar window tints?

yes vkool seems to also block the satellite signals a bit and getting a fix is slower and accuracy suffers a little. if you want to get a fix faster, try opening all windows or if that doesnt work, just hold your nuvi out the window for a short while to get a fix. Once you get a fix, you can place it back onto your car mount and the fix should stay.

Previous GPS units without sirfIII will just not work under V-Kool at all. With sirfIII, u still can get signals but never as good as you would get without v-kool.

Once had the same problem. Turn-on my Nuvi just before reaching Sungai Besi toll plaza, cannot get a lock-on, until I had to stop by the road side and wind down. That was somewhere near PWTC....

Well, at least you know your V-Kool is original....

If possible, try to turn on your GPS outside the car. Once you've got a lock, you can go inside. Accuracy not as good as when outside, but at least you can start driving in the correct direction.

Likely the metallic content in the surface treatment of the V-Kool film. It reflects heat well, but also filters out incoming GPS signals.

What about cutting an opening in the film? :nutz:

Place the GPSr directly under the opening, and hope the satellites are directly overhead? [-o<

I know...I know....a crazy idea....

Thanks guys I thought as much about the Vkool. What to do, did the Vkool before buying the GPS. Might not have done the Vkool had I known!!

Just have to work around it like you guys suggested. At least the other car is not tinted. Does this mean that if there is full tinting (ie. the REALLY dark tint that JPJ marah/illegal/only VIPs) the fix will be even poorer? Hmmm.

My car is v-kooled as well. My 60CSx still can get signals but like i said not as good. My work around is a reradiating antenna. Works for me lah and i can place the unit wherever i want - not necessarily up on the dashboard.

Hi,

I have read about the reradiating antenna, can we get it locally?

Thanks in advance.
