Planted Aquarium kaki

#1 Post by bernGPS » Mon Feb 04, 2008 10:38 pm

Hi there,

I am in the midst of setting up a planted aquarium. Ultimate aim is to establish an aquarium with tropical fish (silver shark, red tail shark and gold fish so far) and aquatic plants that needs minimum maintenance and hopefully will be self cleaning.

I understanding that a good planted aquarium should have floride substrate. Where can I get this? Any idea? Went to a few aquarium shop but I get blank stares in reply.

i think you should first visit this forum

Mymac - malaysia aquascaping club, there are a lot of members there who are pro planted kaki.

http://www.my-mac.net/forum/

i joined one of their workshop at east aqua in ikea and is impressed by their skill.

here is the link to their workshop two year ago.

wanted to pick up the hobby but found it too hard and time consuming , so currently just keeping bare bottom tank.

Hi Bro BernGPS,

Try JBL FerroTabs which provides Iron and Fertilizer needs for aquarium plants. Been using this in my home aquarium. Use 1 tablet per week dosage. Plus you need good lighting. Pretty common stuff here in aquarium hobbyist shops. See link below for description of product

Bro Bern, to DIY a CO2 supply is very easy. I have done it before. U need an empty 1.5 litre soft drink bottle, drill a hole in the cap, insert a rubber air tube into it and seal the gap with silicon gel. The other end of the tube is connected with an air stone. U can produce CO2 with yeast, sugar and water. The amount of CO2 and length of the supply depends largely on the correct mixture of both compound. There are plenty of sites on these. Just google it.

I noticed the main culprits are the goldfish. I think they like a change in diet once in a while. The Redtailed shark likes to eat the moss on the plants.
