Recommended GPSProxy for various PocketPCs

The following is a collection of useable GPSProxy settings as reported by Malsingmaps members in various forum threads. Use them for reference while you're following the PocketPC Setup Guide to use Malsing maps.

Acer N30 PPC2003 + Bluetooth GPS Receiver

Asus A636N (Built-In GPS)

1. Run TRE (http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Registry/Tascal-Tre-9061.shtml) to edit the registry for COM9: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ->SYSTEM ->CurrentControlSet ->GPS Intermediate Driver ->Multiplexer ->ActiveDevice

(Change the DLL from "GPSID" to "VirtualComPort.dll" )

2. Run GPSProxy and create two virtual Com Ports: COM0 and COM9

GPS COM Port = COM5

Baud Rate = 4800


Place a tick on Mirror GPS Input to Output Port (without placing a tick will also work!).

Output COM Port=COM0

Garmin Protocol Output, Application COM Port = COM9

Baud Rate = 4800


3. Set QUE's Communications Port = COM9

Asus Eten M700 (Built-In GPS)

Asus P525 + GSpace GS-R238

1. Need to install GPS Proxy and Garmin Que 2. Run GPSProxy, click menu and setting tab. a) In launch tab (if you install ver. 2.2a), you can choose to let your backlight permanent on and leave MS bluetooth on when quit GPSProxy. b) In power tab your can check to reconnect after power on. And set Reconnect at 12 second. 3. Click Menu and Virtual COM port tab, here you can add a virtual COM port for GPS Proxy to communicate with Garmin Que (Usually use COM5 and COM8. 4. Click Menu and Extension tab. a) At NMEA input clik configure, select GPS COM Port:COM7, thick mirror GPS Input to output port. Output COM port:COM8, movement threshold 1, DOP 8. b) At GPS fix info, thick log tab if you want to trak you movement (only GPS Proxy2.2a) c) At Garmin protocol output tab, communication tab, application COM port:COM8 (thick Garmin Protocol). Dont change data in Garmin Protocol Tab, and Garmin Que tab, Min:10, Max:20. Click start to start the connection with your BT GPS device.

In the garmin que, click Menu, system setup. Go to Interface tab and select communication tab COM8 (same as GPS Proxy).

If the Garmin software keep searching for the COM8. Try this trick, in the interface tab, change to COM7 and immediately change back to COM8.

    • Select “Configure” button at the bottom of the screen
    • Application COM Port: COM2
  • Menu > Virtual COM Ports
    • Add COM2. You should see just one Com port here. If you see more than one, remove the extra.
  • Menu > Settings > Launch
    • Tick "Start Proxy Automatically on Launch" if you want GPSProxy to start automatically
    • Tick "Run External App after Proxy Startup" if you want Que to starts up after GPSProxy is running.


Garmin Que Setting

  • Menu > Settings > Garmin Que > Interface
    • GPS Device: GPS 10 Bluetooth
    • Communications Port: GPSProxy Virtual COM Port on COM2


Others

  • Common problem:"Error loading virtual COM port driver for COM2", to resolve;
    • turn off the HT-Toolbars. To turn it off, Settings>Today>Items>Untick the httoolbars (the last entry).

  • This is written specifically for the installation of GPSProxy 2.2 (Andrew Klopper's version) into the HP6965 Messenger.
  • Menu > Extension
    • GPS Provider: NMEA Input
    • Select “Configure”
    • GPS COM Port: COM7
    • Output COM Port: COM2
  • Menu > Extension
    • Select “Garmin Protocol Output”
    • Select “Configure” button at the bottom of the screen
    • Application COM Port: COM2
  • Menu > Virtual COM Ports
    • Add COM2. You should see just one Com port here. If you see more than one, remove the extra.
  • Menu > Settings > Launch
    • Tick "Start Proxy Automatically on Launch" if you want GPSProxy to start automatically
    • Tick "Run External App after Proxy Startup" if you want Que to starts up after GPSProxy is running.
  • Menu > Settings > Garmin Que > Interface

  • Others
    • Make sure to update your AGPS data via HP Quick Connect, then go outdoor and you should get a fix within 15 sec.
    • The Recommended Baud Rate is 4800.

O2 XDAII + GlobalSat SD-502 SDIO GPS Receiver

A. Create a virtual COM port:

a) Download from http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Registry/Tascal-Tre-9061.shtml. Install TRE PPC Registry Editor software by copying TRE.arm.CAB to PPC’s Explorer, click once on TRE.arm.CAB on the PPC, and it will be installed on the PPC.

b) Run TRE PPC’s Registry Editor, and make the following changes:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Drivers->Active->14 (this number may differ, look for one that refers to COM9):

1. Hnd (String)  00031ED0 (204496) (No change)

2. Name (Dword) COM9:” (No change)

3. Key (Dword) Drivers\BuiltIn\VirtCOM” (Change from Serial_Data)

4. InterfaceType (String) FFFFFFFF (-1) (No change)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Drivers->BuiltIn->VirtCOM (reassign the default VirtCOM. Note: Never create a new VirtualCOM directory under BuiltIn folder as it will hang the PPC!)

1. Order (String) 00000000 (0) (Change from 2)

2. FriendlyName (Dword) “gpsProxy Virt Com 9” (Add this new string)

3. Index (String) 00000009 (9) (No change)

4. Dll (String) VirtualComPort.dll” (Change from serial3.dll)

5. Prefix (String) COM” (No change)


B. Run GPSProxy:

a) Click “Virtual COM Ports…” and add COM0, then

b) Click “Extensions…”

Under GPS Provider: click on “Configure”

GPS COM Port = COM7 Baud Rate = 4800

Output COM Port = COM0 Under Extensions: Garmin Protocol Output, Application COM Port = COM9, Baud Rate = 4800
