Before you ask any questions regarding using Garmin Que it is highly recommended that you read the relevant Garmin Que manual (application guides) for your device (PocketPC or PalmOS) that can be found here:

Errors with some combinations of start and destination routing?

Probably some corruption in one of the Que file. The remedy is to delete the file "GARMIN.NVM" located in the Garmin folder in the main memory.

Note: This'll however clear all settings in Que and will start Que afresh

Can I add basemap in Que?

Yes. In fact a worldmap (GMAPBMAP.img) is included when you purchase Garmin GPS 10.

Just put the basemap and malsingmaps to Garmin folder in your PDA. No configuration is needed to use the basemap. You will see the world map when you zoom out.

Downloading and Installing the Basemap

Download from http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=461 Use Winzip to extract GMAPBMAP.IMG from the above file. Copy GMAPBMAP.IMG directly to a folder in the storage card of your PDA, created from root directory and named as Garmin (SD:\Garmin\GMAPBMAP.IMG) Use a card reader to transfer this file.

You can also get the basemap for PPC from here: Basemap for PPC . It is apparently meant for the Garmin Mobile XT, but will also work in Que.

How come I still cannot view malsingmaps in Que ...

... even though I've followed every steps in the setup guide?

You do not need to pair your PDA with GPSr to view malsingmaps with Que.

However, if you have NEVER got a first time fix from satelites with your PDA; then you are probably looking at a location somewhere in US (Garmin HQ in ??). In other words, a blank screen as Malsingmaps only covers Singapore and Malaysia, unless of course you have the World base map installed.

Here's what you will need to do to see the maps of Singapore and Malaysia:

  1. Zoom out to the maximum.
  2. Move your cursor in southwest direction (about 3~4 strokes to the left and about half a storke to the bottom).
  3. Look for tiny rectangles.
  4. Zoom in.

Another way to find Malaysia easily will be to install the world basemap. It will take the guesswork out of finding Malaysia and Singapore on the World Map. Basmap is available here

You should see malsingmaps by now. Do note that you need to repeat the steps above everytime you turn on Que until you get your first fix from the satelites.

Alternately, even without ever having had a satellite fix, you can tell Que where you are manually:

  1. Switch to the "QueGPS" page on your PDA (The page that would display your satellites and signal strength if you had a fix), then
  2. pull down the menu, tap "New Location",
  3. tap "Use Map", then drag, zoom in or out, etc until the map pointer is where you want it to be.
  4. tap "Done"
Unless you have a GPS to tell Que where you are, Que will not know nor remember where you are.
You can tell Que where you are but that is only good for each session. Once Que is shut down
it will not remember what you as a user tells it. It is a software that only remembers what a
hardware tells it, not what a human tells it. Of course there are ways to trick Que to think
that you are a GPS hardware, but that's another complex issue. - Taipan

If you don't have a GPS receiver, another way is to route from your current location to any nearby loaction. (Route from find to find.) Garmin que will then rememeber the departure point as the first fixed location for startup.

Example: First tap menu, system setup. Tap on GPS mode, disconnected. Tap route button, tap new. on Start point, Tap find.Tap "all points of intrest" Enter KLCC. Long tap on KLCC park, tap select. THen on End point, tap find, type "all points of interest" Enter KLCC. Long tap on Klcc cc, tap select. Then tap create route. Garmin que will ask if you want to simulate driving this route. Click no. Click route again and tap Stop Navigation. Now your start point will be KLCC Park.

I did a postal code search and no search result came out? Why?

This has been asked many many times before...The free maps here do not have postal code, currently. It is not a top priority. Period. If it is not there, your search will comes up empty. If you really can't live without a postal code, you could go and buy a commercial one, with bells and whistles, like the version from Streetdirectory.... .

Que voice navigation and routing info not responding

If Que voice navigation is not working and information such as turn direction, distance to turn etc. is not updating during navigation, and the problem persists even after reset, shutdown or removing the battery, try the following steps in Que:-

  1. Stop navigation
  2. Goto GPS info page
  3. Disconnect GPS and wait few seconds
  4. re-connect GPS

This should solve the problem beside uninstall reinstalling or hard reset...

I can't seem to be able to search for address in the second map

This is a known problem if you are using PatchIMG to compile the map prior to transferring it to the PDA. There is a solution to the said problem using PatchIMG.

Hey, my screen is too small to see all of Que display. Any way to solve this?

This issue with screen seems to be prevalent with integrated devices like HP PDA messengers. The screen is more squarish rather than elongated. To solve this you have to resize the screen using a third party program e.g. Resource Hacker available at http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/. Another way is to use an screen resolution changer app called Nydidot to set the screen size. Available at http://www.nyditot.com/Home.asp but you have to pay for it.

You cannot modify the screen display as program was written for 240X360 screen. However, you can change the display characteristics to get a scroll bar to access bottom half of screen not accessible before by [1]:-

  1. Using reshack, edit que.exe by view/dialog/expand tree.
  2. Edit all dialog text on the first line where the number 137, xxx is present
  3. Select only where xxx exceed 137, & change number to 137 and compile
  4. Leave all dialog text where the first number exceed 137
  5. Save the new que.exe and replace this altered program to your pda
  6. Using this method, there's no change to the display characteristics but u get a scroll bar to access bottom half of screen not accessible before.
  7. You can also change the program to fit the 240X240 by changing the font size/dialog box/icons. Sure, very tedious process.

I want to backup the tracks, routes, and waypoints that are saved in Que

When you install Garmin Que into your PDA.....doesn't matter whether in the default Main Memory, or into the SD card, blah blah blah.....one thing is for sure....

The installation process will create a Garmin folder in the Main Memory (whether you like it or not). In this directory, Que will store all the active routes and active tracks, and all your saved routes and saved tracks. And your waypoints too.

So if you want to backup your saved routes, saved tracks, and saved waypoints, just copy these files somewhere else safe...

See Garmin Que Non Volatile Memory files for descriptions of the NVM files in Garmin Que program folder.
